DVR, also known as Digital Video Recorder, Personal Video Recorder or PVR, is a consumer electronics which lets you record any TV program and watch it at a later time. Have recorded tons of videos/episodes/TV programs on your DVR? Want to free up hard drive space on the DVR for recording additional content? You may want to transfer programming from DVR to DVD for backup and viewing later.
In this article, we introduce two methods to burn DVR to DVD. You could connect your DVR to a DVD recorder, burn the show on a DVD-R and then use the DVD to put the show on your computer. Or you could get whatever card would be necessary to connect your computer directly to the DVR. This is going to be a TV tuner card. Read on to learn how and choose one according to your need.
By using TV tuner recording, you will need to transfer DVR to computer and then burn DVR videos to DVD. Follow the steps below:
1. Connect your television to your computer's TV tuner. Insert one end of an HDMI cable into the television's HDMI port. Insert the other end of the cable into your TV tuner's HDMI port. Alternatively, insert one end of an RCA cable into your television's color-coded "Video Out" port. Insert the other end of the cable into your TV tuner's "Video In" or "Line In" port. Use an HDMI cable as your first choice if possible, because it provides the best quality audio and video.
2. Cue your DVR video content for playback. Use the DVR's controls to access the program you wish to record. Push "Record" on the TV tuner's control panel.
3. Push "Play" on the DVR's controls immediately. Doing so minimizes the amount of empty space at the beginning of your TV tuner's digital recording. Push "Stop" on the TV tuner's control panel when the DVR content has completed playback.
4. Save the TV tuner's digital recording in a file format that is compatible with your computer's DVD writer, such as MPEG or AVI. Select "Save As" from the "File" tab on the TV tuner's menu bar. Name the new digital video file, and select your desired file type from the "File Type" drop-down menu.
