Part 1 DVD Media Formats and Choosing DVD Disc
Part 2 How to Compress Video Files to Fit on a DVD?
Part 3 How to Split Video to Burn Multiple DVD?
"So I have this movie DVD and I want to burn it onto DVD disc for playing on my home DVD player. However, the file size is 6GB which is too big for a standard DVD-R disc which has the capacity of 4.7GB. Is there any program that I can use to split the movies into parts and burn them onto 2 single layer DVDs?"
Well, if you have movie file that exceeds the capacity of a standard DVD disc (4.7GB), you may burn it to a dual layer DVD (8.5GB). If you don't want to make a double sided DVD disc, then you can split the file into two or more parts and then burn them onto multiple DVDs. This requires a program that gives you the option to split large files. DVD Creator is such a DVD authoring software which is able to compress video files to fit a DVD disc, also it lets you split large files so that you can burn two or more DVDs. Now check out the step-by-step guide and learn how to split DVD movies to burn onto DVDs.
Step 1 Download DVD Creator
DVD Creator is able to burn DVDs from almost any video formats, including AVI, MKV, MP4, MPEG, MOV, M2TS, TS, MTS, TP, AVCHD, etc. With DVD Creator, you don't have to worry about video formats compatible problems. Download and install it. Both Windows and Mac version are available.

Step 2 Import Video Files
Once you've successfully installed it, you may run it on your computer. And then add you movie files into the program. Here we take the movie "The Patriot" as an example. Click on "Import" button and find the movie and import it to the program. Now you will see the interface as below:
The tool bar at the bottom shows it very clear that the movie is too large for a standard DVD disc. So we split the movie into parts.
Step 3 Split Movie/Video File
The video-editor built-in DVD Creator lets you do some editing which includes "Split". Click on the scissors icon right next to the movie thumbnail.
Now you will be led to the editing window. Here we can do crop, trim, add watermark, add subtitle, etc. We select "Trim" option and set the end time to a specific point according to your need. E.g., "The Patriot" is 02:55:06.07 long, here we set the End Time at 01:30:00.00. You may see the interface as below:
Once done, click on "OK" button and you will be back to the main interface. Now you can check out the tool bar at the bottom which looks like:
Yes, now the video is fit for the current DVD disc (DVD-5) which means you have just successfully split the movie and now it will go to the DVD disc without a problem.
Tips:
Don't worry, although you've just split/trimmed the movie, the original movie is still there. This DVD burning tool will never ruin your original video source.
Step 4 Burn Movies to DVD
Now you can burn the movie to DVD. Also, you can customize the DVD menu if you have the need. After that, insert your blank recordable DVD disc into your DVD burner drive and click on "Burn" button to burn the movie file onto DVD disc.
Once the disc is burnt, you can follow the step above to burn the next part onto another DVD disc. After that, you can watch the DVD disc on your stand-alone DVD player with TV. By now, you have successfully learned on how to split large files into parts to burn onto DVD disc. Have fun.
Tips:
When you are burning the second DVD disc, you need to set "Start Time" instead of "End Time".
Once you've done.
